4-wheel drive course

Wow... things change so quickly. Much has happened already. Rob just got a job! He interviewed on Thursday, got the job on Friday, and left for 6 weeks today (Tuesday) to work at a Tungsten exploration site in Queensland (the northeastern part of Australia). He'll be in charge of logging core and trying to figure out where the deposits of tungsten are buried in the area. The job schedule is 6 weeks on (12 hours a day, 7 days a week) and then 2 weeks off. Tough schedule!
In other news, we both now have Victorian drivers' licenses. But in a hilarious turn of events, Rob couldn't prove that he'd been driving for at least three years, so he had to get a probationary license. This type of license requires the placement of a big red P on the front and back of the car at all times when driving and a host of other driving restictions, including a zero blood acohol regulation. That means no listerine in the morning! No liqeuer flavored chocolates. Ha haa ahaa.. Rob. The geologists in the outback are going to love that.
Lucky for me, the drivers license set me up to take the 4 wheel drive training course! A day of fun playing in the mud and driving up and down really steep hills. I learned an amazing amount, especially about how not to use your clutch when on a particularly steep incline. You'd never think it, but the instructor even said that I did fairly well. :) Check out the pics.
Finally, before Rob took off today, we went for a hike in the gum forest (eucalyptus forest) this past Sunday and were greeted by an amazing amount of friendly birds. The birds that looked the most foreign and therefore interesting to Rob and me were the huge white cockatoos and the red and blue lorakeets. The lorakeets loved Rob (see photos) and I quickly removed myself from the situation. The forest was huge, with all sorts of amazing fern-like palm trees and beautiful eucalyptus bark hanging down everywhere.
That's it for now... it's lonely in Melbourne without Rob already!
